Second Listen: "It Seems Like You're Ready" (R. Kelly)

R. Kelly's classic 1993 debut album 12 Play would go onto spawned four hit singles and the album was so successful and filled with bangers that a fifth song would go onto chart from 12 Play in 1994 in the form of "It Seems Like You're Ready."

Produced and written by R. Kelly, "It Seems Like You're Ready" would go onto peak at a respectable #59 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #29 on the Hot R&B Singles chart without even being officially released from Jive Records. With that said, take a second listen below to "It Seems Like You're Ready" and Enjoy!

Live Video of the Day: "Shine" (John Legend)

Over two years ago, John Legend visited The Recording Academy in Los Angeles because one of his Grammy Awards broke and while he was there to collect its replacement, John of course took to the piano and performed a few songs.

With that said, one of the songs he performed was "Shine," my favorite joint from his discography and is lifted from the official soundtrack to Waiting For Superman. With that said, watch his powerful performance of "Shine" after the jump and Enjoy!

Song of the Day: "Knockin' Da Boots" (H-Town)

"Knockin' Da Boots" - H-Town
  • Writers: Keven Conner, Solomon Conner, Darryl Jackson, Stick, Roger Troutman, and  Larry Troutman
  • Producers: Keven Conner, Solomon Conner, Darryl Jackson, and Stick
  • Record Label: Luke
  • Released in 1993 from Fever for da Flavor
  • Peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Hot R&B Singles chart

New Joint: "Show & Prove" (K-Ci & JoJo)

K-Ci & JoJo are back with their new comeback album My Brother's Keeper, which hit stores today and with the new album finally being available for fans of the classic 90s duo, a new joint from them has hit the net to continue to build buzz for their just released project.

Entitled "Show & Prove," it is the official second single to be lifted from My Brother's Keeper and is about the duo convincing a woman that she is with the wrong man. With that said, take a listen below to "Show & Prove" and if you like what you hear, cop K-Ci & JoJo's new album My Brother's Keeper which is in stores today!

Album Stream: "One: In The Chamber" (Salaam Remi)

The man behind a lot of your favorite joints Salaam Remi is taking a step out in front of the limelight for a moment with a new compilation album entitled One: In The Chamber, which hit iTunes earlier today.

Featuring new music from the Grammy-nominated producer that includes the likes of Akon, Ne-Yo, Corinne Bailey Rae, Estelle, Stephen Marley, Jordin Sparks, Liam Bailey, Lemar and CJ Hilton, his album is just what I needed as we move into October. Offering brilliant production and solid vocals from his featured guest vocalists, Remi's intstrumental tracks that were included on the album are also solid bangers.

Take a listen to One: In The Chamber after the jump and if you like what you hear, cop the download via iTunes!

New Joint: "Elastic Heart" (Sia ft. The Weeknd)

The biggest commercially viable film this fall is hands down The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and ahead of the blockbuster's release, Sia's The Weeknd assisted and Diplo produced joint "Elastic Heart" has hit the net from the star-studded accompanying soundtrack.

Featuring a solid verse from The Weekdnd, the clear standout for me on this joint has to be Sia's soaring vocals on top of Diplo's brilliantly produced mid-tempo track for "Elastic Heart." With that said, take a listen below to "Elastic Heart" and if you like what you hear, lookout for the soundtrack to The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, when it's release November 19th with additional contributions from The Weeknd, Christina Aguilera, Santigold, Lorde and Coldplay.

Listen to Sia, The Weeknd and Diplo's powerful collaboration of "Elastic Heart" below and Enjoy!

New Joint: "Look Up" (Daley)

I posted Daley's new joint "Look Up" several days ago, but it wasn't the official audio version that Daley has since released and so I thought it would be appropriate to revisit "Look Up" with its official audio stream now.

Daley has been grinding for a few years now raising his profile with every new release and now the official lead single from his forthcoming debut album Days & Nights has officially hit the net.

Entitled "Look Up," Daley co-write it with in-demand producer Pharrell Williams who also produced Daley's US lead single from his upcoming debut album. With that said, take a listen after the jump to "Look Up" and if you like what you hear, go out and purchase it now!

Set: "Later…with Jools Holland" (Janelle Monáe)

Janelle Monáe has been making her international promotional visits these past few weeks in support of her latest album The Electric Lady and this past weekend, Janelle appeared on BBC Two's Later…with Jools Holland with a riveting medley of songs from The Electric Lady.

Kicking it off with her single "Dance Apocalyptic," Janelle then moved into the title-track of the album before finishing it off with the set's lead single "Q.U.E.E.N.," sans Badu. With that said, watch Janelle rock out the studios of Later... with Jools Holland and if you haven't checked out her latest release The Electric Lady yet, definitely give it a listen!

Cut: "Wounds In The Way" (Rachelle Ferrell)

I was flipping through the channels yesterday and stumbled upon what appeared to be a Tyler Perry marathon on Lifetime and one of the films that I caught a portion of was Madea's Family Reunion. While the film has its moments, the soundtrack for Madea's Family Reunion was truly the highlight of the film for me personally.

With that said, one of the numerous standouts from the sound for Madea's Family Reunion has to be Rachelle Ferrell's "Wounds In The Way." Such a smooth, beautiful and powerful ballad, "Wounds In The Way" is a joint that can easily get stuck on repeat for several hours, which is just what happened to me during the early evening last night.

Composed by Rachelle Ferrell, Tyler Perry  and Elvin D. Ross, this is such a gem in Rachelle's vast discography that warrants more attention then it's originally had. Therefore, take a listen below to Rachelle Ferrell's cut "Wounds In The Way" and Enjoy!

New Joint: "I Stand Alone" (Robert Glasper Experiment ft. Common & Patrick Stump)

After winning a Grammy Award for Best R&B Album earlier this year for Black Radio, the Robert Glasper Experiment are set to release the official sequel, Black Radio 2, on October 29th. With less than a month to go until it's release, a new single "I Stand Alone" has hit the net following the Jill Scott assisted "Calls."

Featuring some solid verses from Common and a dope chorus via Fall Out Boy's lead vocalist Patrick Stump, "I Stand Alone also features academic Michael Eric Dyson at the end of the track discussing the the value in originality during the age of mechanical reproduction.

With that said, take a listen after the jump to "I Stand Alone" and lookout for Black Radio 2 on October 29th as the set offers up another dope line-up this time featuring the likes of Brandy, Jill Scott, Dwele, Marsha Ambrosius, Anthony Hamilton, Faith Evans, Norah Jones, Snoop Dogg, Lupe Fiasco, Emeli Sandé and Lalah Hathaway.

Playback: "I Blame You" (Ledisi)

To celebrate the digital release of Ledisi's lead single "I Blame You," which is lifted from her forthcoming studio album, I thought it would be appropriate to revisit her dope mid-tempo jam.

Produced by Chuck Harmony and written by Claude Kelly and Ledisi, "I Blame You" is a flip on the popular phrase's connotative meaning that is often used to blame a loved one for a negative situation. Ledisi of course is firing on all vocal cylinders and even drops a little scat towards the end of the powerhouse mid-tempo that features her iconic soaring vocals.

With that said, "I Blame You" was released at midnight tonight on iTunes and I am sure a lot of you will be waking up to this post, so why not purchase this infectious mid-tempo from Led before heading kicking off the new work week. Take a listen below to "I Blame You" and click here to purchase Ledisi's latest hit single!

Remix: "Put It Down (EVEstylin) (Brandy ft. Eve & Chris Brown)

Towards the end of last year Eve was in the midst of making her music comeback and while she was hopping on several of the year's hottet songs, Eve decided to get the "comeback" single from another returning music veteran.

Jumping onto Brandy's hit "comeback" single "Put It Down," Eve released her own version entitled "Put It Down (EVEstylin)" and adds her own flavor to the already banging joint. Take a listen below to "Put It Down (EVEstylin)" and Enjoy!

Song of the Day: "Still" (The Commodores)

"Still" - The Commodores
  • Writer: Lionel Richie
  • Producers: James Anthony Carmichael, Commodores
  • Record Label: Motown
  • Released in 1979 from Midnight Magic
  • Peaked at #1 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Hot Soul Singles chart

Live Clip: "You Got Me" (The Roots ft. Jill Scott & Erykah Badu)

Back in 2004, Dave Chappelle hosted a block party as a part of a documentary he was shooting at the time that footage from the concert and his summer of 2004 would eventually form the film Dave Chappelle's Block Party.

Taking place on September 18, 2004, when Dave threw a block party on the corner of Quincy Street and Downing Street in the Clinton Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City, one of the highlights from the concert and the accompanying documentary has to be when Jill Scott, Erykah Badu and The Roots shared the stage on the classic "You Got Me."

While Jill Scott originally wrote and sang the hook for "You Got Me, "when it was serviced to radio, her vocals were replaced with Badu's. Therefore, the performance from that September night with The Roots marked the first recorded time that Badu and Jill shared the stage and both prove why they are legends in their own right. Watch The Roots, Badu's and Jill's performance of "You Got Me" from Dave Chappelle's Block Party after the jump and Enjoy!

Amazing Cover: "I'd Rather Go Blind" (Liam Bailey)

I've been a fan of UK soul crooner Liam Bailey for over three years now and the first joint I heard from him was his sublime cover of the Etta James classic "I'd Rather Go Blind." Lifted from his "2am Rough Tracks" project, Liam really gives his own twist to Etta's joint.

With that said, take a listen after the jump to his cover of "I'd Rather Go Blind" as we await his potential US release. While it is unclear why he hasn't made the move over here to the US to break into the market, his rendition of "I'd Rather Go Blind" is just a taste of what Bailey can do!

Cut: "Good Mourning" (India.Arie)

I'm still on an emotional high from seeing India.Arie's sublime concert this past friday night at Club Nokia and one of the joints that truly spoke to me for some reason that night was India's cut "Good Mourning." Lifted from her third studio album Testimony: Vol. 1, Life & Relationship, "Good Mourning" even features a rift on India's classic ballad "Ready for Love," which was lifted from her debut album Acoustic Soul.

I truly do not know what was in the air that night, but the lyric "[g]ood mourning independence or is it loneliness" resonated with me on some other level this past friday night and India's entire show fed by soul.

With that said, take a listen to her cut "Good Mourning" and if you like what you hear, please revisit India.Arie's vast discography, which continues to grow with the recent release of her fifth studio album SongVersation.

Second Listen: "Nobody Knows" (The Tony Rich Project)

Released in 1995 from his then forthcoming debut album Words, "Nobody Knows" is a solid acoustic R&B ballad written by Joe Rich and Don DuBose and produced by Tony Rich.

"Nobody Knows" would go onto peak at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks and earn Rich a 1997 Grammy nominations for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. With that said, take a second listen below to this classic from Rich and Enjoy!

Live Audio: "Do You Remeber" (Jill Scott)

Back in 2001, Jill Scott recorded her first live album entitled Experience Jill Scott 826+. Recorded during her Washington DC concert of her Words and Sounds Tour, Scott's first live album is one of the best live records in my opinion to be released in the last 25 years hands down.

With that said, during Jill's set from Experience Jill Scott 826+, the then rising songstress performed riveting live renditions of works lifted from her debut album Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds, Vol. 1 and one of the highlights from her LP has to be "Do You Remember" in my opinion. Therefore, take a listen after the jump to Jill's live rendition of "Do You Remember" and Enjoy!

Cut: "Father, Father" (Laura Mvula)

I've been jamming to Laura Mvula's debut album Sing To The Moon since it arrived by mail to me earlier this year and after several listens, one of my favorite cuts from the album has to be her slow joint  "Father, Father."

While she has performed the song live while promoting her new album, which has peaked thus far at #9 on the UK Albums Chart, I hadn't really listened to the lyrics and the instrumentation behind "Father, Father." With that said, take a listen below to Laura's cut "Father, Father" and if you like what you hear, go out and support her by picking up a copy of her sublime debut album Sing To The Moon.

Live Video of the Day: "Just a Fool" (Christina Aguilera & Blake Shelton)

WithChristina Aguilera back on NBC's The Voice, I thought it would be appropriate to revisit one of the gems from her latest album Lotus. While Lotus didn't pan out to be the commercial success that the material warranted, Christina had a lot of great songs on the LP including her ballad "Just a Fool."

With that said, last year, Christina was on The Ellen Show on NBC to help promote her then recently released LP Lotus and of course she performed the set's second single "Just a Fool" with the assistance of her fellow The Voice coach Blake Shelton. Watch their solid duet below and if you don't have Lotus, there is no time like the present to catch-up on it!

Song of the Day: "Always & Forever" (Heatwave)

"Always & Forever" - Heatwave
  • Writer: Rod Temperton
  • Producer: Barry Blue
  • Record Label: Epic Records
  • Released in 1977 from Too Hot to Handle
  • Peaked at #18 on the Billboard Hot 100 & #2 on the Hot Soul Singles chart
  • My personal all-time favorite love song

Amazing Cover: "Try A Little Tenderness" (Amber Riley)

Since Amber Riley is currently rocking it on ABC's Dancing With The Stars, I thought it would be appropriate to revisit one of her amazing covers from her time on FOX's Glee, where she was sadly underutilized.

With that said, I haven't heard an Amber Riley cover I haven't liked and if nothing, her time on Glee proved that Amber is definitley one of the most gifted vocalists currently in the industry and hopefully after Dancing With The Stars, we will hear some original music from Ms. Riley.

Amber's voice is so soulful and powerful that she garners attention whenever she covers a record. With that said, listen to Amber's amazing cover of the Otis Redding classic "Try A Little Tenderness" below. Though several artists have remade this song in the past few years, Amber's is my favorite by far. Her gospel soaked pipes fit perfectly for the song.

Listen below and Enjoy!

Album in the Works: "The Best Man Holiday" Soundtrack

Looks like it is going to be a soulful holiday season as we close out 2013 as Tamar Braxton, Mary J. Blige, and now the official soundtrack for the forthcoming film The Best Man Holiday are all seemingly guaranteeing us a soul holiday.

Slated fore release on October 28th via RCA Records, the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack from the film The Best Man Holiday features thirteen songs including some newly written holiday jams in addition to some old faithfuls from the likes of R. Kelly, Mary J. Blige, Ne-Yo, John Legend, Monica, Mario, Fantasia, Marsha Ambrosius & Anthony Hamilton, Emeli Sandé and Jordin Sparks.

Kelly, David Foster, John Legend, Jermaine Dupri, Ne-Yo, Steve Daly, Greg Pagani and Charlie Wilson, the soundtrack for The Best Man Holiday is up for pre-order on October 15 at iTunes, Amazon and select online retailers. The Best Man Holiday arrives in theaters nationwide on November 15 and you can peep the official tracklisting for the soundtrack after the jump!

Live Audio: "A House Is Not a Home" (Luther Vandross)

Y'all should already know that Luther Vandross has the definitive version of the Burt Bacharach classic "A House Is Not a Home," Dionne Warwick herself would exclaim this and as we begin to close out September, I thought it would be great to revisit one of Luther's numerous sublime live audio renditions of this classic.

During Luther Vandross' 1991 The Power of Love Tour, he brought out some classic songs from his discography including his rendition of "A House Is Not a Home," which was featured on his 1981 debut album Never Too Much. Though never released as a single from Never Too Much, Luther's interpretation of "A House Is Not a Home" is a staple on Quiet Storm radio.

With that said, during his tour stop in Anaheim, CA, Luther recorded what seems to be a scrapped lived album and luckily for us a fan of Vandross got her/his hands on the live audio version of "A House Is Not a Home." Therefore, take some time to listen to this live audio recording of the classic Luther cut "A House Is Not a Home" and Enjoy!

Second Listen: "Why Don't You Love Me" (Beyoncé)

After watching Solange's interview where she talked briefly about the inspiration behind Beyoncé's "Why Don't You Love Me," I thought it would be appropriate to revisit this gem that was lifted from Beyoncé's Grammy-winning third solo album I Am... Sasha Fierce.

Lifted as the final single from B's critically and commercially acclaimed third album, "Why Don't You Loved Me" was officially released in May of 2010 when her retro fifties inspired official visual for the song hit the net.

Featured as a rousing segment of Beyoncé's current The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour," Why Don't You Love Me" never received its just dues in my book and you can revisit it with a second listen below!

Interview: Solange

While on the promotional trail for  her latest video for "Lovers In The Parking Lot," Solange caught up  with Bianca Golden of NecoleBitchie.com and opened up about the inspiration behind her latest single, what she loves about songwriter, her inspiration behind writing her sister's hit single "Why Don't You Love Me," and having a ton of songs perfect for Mariah Carey to sing.

In addition to opening up about having songs in the vault for Mariah Carey, Solange opens up about her current relationship of 5 years, approaching her current boyfriend, and so much more. Peep Solange's interview after the jump and hopefully 2014 will find a full-length LP from Solange!

Album in the Works: "My Brother's Keeper" (K-Ci & JoJo)

K-Ci & JoJo are back from hiatus and returned earlier this year with a solid new single "Knock If Off" this summer, which was lifted from the legendary duo's forthcoming comeback album My Brother's Keeper.

Slated for release this Monday, September 30th, My Brother's Keeper marks the fifth studio album of K-Ci & JoJo and luckily for fans of the veteran R&B duo, the official tracklisting of the set has finally hit the net ahead of the set's upcoming Monday release.

With that said, peep the official twelve track lineup for K-Ci & JoJo's My Brother's Keeper after the jump and lookout for the album when it drops online and in stores on Monday!

Live Video of the Day: "Ready for Love" (India.Arie)

Went to the India.Arie concert earlier tonight here in Los Angeles at Club Nokia and India.Arie put on a sublime show including material from her current LP SongVersation as well as some of her classic hits from her vast discography. With that said, during her set, I was reminded of her beautiful gem "Ready for Love" and search the net for a powerful live rendition of her tender ballad.

Stumbling across her sublime rendition from Later... with Jools Holland from back in May of 2001, a then burgeoning singer/songwriter, India.Arie set ablaze the studios for BBC Two's  Later... with Jools Holland and you can watch it all go down after the jump.

Remix: "Crazy In Love (Urban Noize Remix)" (Beyoncé feat. Jay-Z)

Released before Beyoncé's career defining Super Bowl halftime performance, Urban Noize's remix of Beyoncé's classic debut solo single "Crazy In Love" is a welcomed take on the near iconic joint from B's Dangerously In Love. With that said, take a listen below to "Crazy In Love (Urban Noize Remix)" as we eagerly await the taste of some new music from Mrs. Carter!

Song of the Day: "I Want You" (Marvin Gaye)

"I Want You" - Marvin Gaye
  • Writers: Leon Ware and Arthur "T-Boy" Ross
  • Producers: Marvin Gaye and Leon Ware
  • Record Label: Tamla
  • Released in 1976 from I Want You
  • It reached #15 on the U.S. Billboard Pop Singles and #1 on Hot Selling Soul Singles chart

Interview: Kanye West

During the fourth and final installment from his hour long interview with BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe,  Kanye West continue to discuss his thoughts on creativity, Jay's importance to his success in addition to the production on his latest album Yeezus.

In addition to discussing the collaborative nature of production, Kanye engages on such topics as architecture, the paparazzi, his thoughts on Kendrick Lamar‘s "Control," going on tour with Kendrick for his upcoming Yeezus tour and so much more. Peep the fourth and final installment of Kanye's interview after the jump and hopefully you will hear the knowledge that Kanye is dropping as he really is going there.

Trailer: "Black Nativity" (Jennifer Hudson, Jacob Latimore)

Langston Hughes' Black Nativity has been adapted into a feature musical starring Jacob Latimore, Jennifer Hudson, Forrest Whitaker, Angela Bassett, Mary J. Blige and Nas, amongst others. With that said, a new official theatrical trailer for the forthcoming November 27th film has hit the net giving viewers a more detailed understanding of exactly what the film is about.

With that said, watch the official trailer for Black Nativity after the jump and lookout for it when it hits theaters November 27th, just in time for the holiday season!

Playback: "Just Do You" (India.Arie)

Still getting amped to see India.Arie later tonight at Club Nokia here in Los Angeles and I am sure she is going to perform her thumping joint "Just Do You," which is lifted from her latest release SongVersation, which her current tour is in support of.

While she performed a powerful acoustic rendition on The Steve Harvey Morning Show a few weeks ago, it is unclear if this will be the second official single lifted from India's fifth studio album. Hopefully, "Just Do You" will get released to radio and get the music video treatment as it's a thumping anthem that everyone needs to hear especially as we slowly begin to move into the close of 2013.

With that said, take a playback to what will hopefully become India.Arie's latest single from SongVersation and if you haven't heard her new album yet, give it a chance!

Live Audio: "Sugar and Spice (I Found Me a Girl)" (Luther Vandross)

During Luther Vandross' 1991 The Power of Love Tour, he brought out some classic songs from the vault including his thumping joint "Sugar and Spice (I Found Me a Girl)," which was lifted from his 1981 debut album Never Too Much.

Lifted originally as the third single from Luther's Never Too Much, it became a minor hit on the R&B charts peaking at #72, though clearly is not one of the biggest hits in his vast discography. With that said, during his tour stop in Anaheim, CA, Luther recorded what seems to be a scrapped lived album and luckily for us a fan of Vandross got her/his hands on the live audio version of "Sugar and Spice (I Found Me a Girl)."

Therefore, take some time to listen to this live audio recording of the classic Luther cut "Sugar and Spice (I Found Me a Girl)" and Enjoy!

Amazing Cover: "Pearls" (India.Arie ft. Dobet Gnahore)

Back in 2009, India.Arie released her fourth studio album Testimony: Vol. 2, Love & Politics and while the album did not match the commercial success of 2006's Testimony: Vol. 1, Life & Relationship, her fourth studio album would go onto net India her third Grammy Award in 2010 for Best Urban/Alternative Performance for her rendition of Sade's "Pearls."

Interestingly enough, India.Arie would go onto open for Sade on their Lovers Rock Tour back in 2001 while she was getting her start in the industry and years later would cover their classic cut "Pearls" with the assistance of Dobet Gnahore. With that said, take a listen after the jump to India's collaboration with Dobet Gnahore on Sade's "Pearls" and Enjoy!

Cut: "Beautiful" (India.Arie)

I have the pleasure of seeing India.Arie later tonight in Los Angeles at Club Nokia here at L.A. Live and to get ready for her show tonight, I have been going through India's vast discography that begins with her phenomenal debut album Acoustic Soul.

While a lot of artists have solid debut albums, India's debut album is one of the few albums that is a body of work and warrants a listen from her intro track to her tribute to Stevie Wonder on "Wonderful." During the sonic journey that is Acoustic Soul though, listeners will stumble upon a variety of musical gems from India including one of my favorite cuts from her "Beautiful."

With that said, take a listen after the jump to India.Arie's powerful joint "Beautiful" and Enjoy!

Remix: "Bad (AfroJack Remix)" (Michael Jackson)

In honor of the 25th anniversary release of Michael Jackson's iconic album Bad and it's accompanying title single, Pepsi has requested that several DJs craft a remix of Michael Jackson’s classic 1987 single "Bad."

With that said, Dutch DJ and producer AfroJack created a  techno/electronic remix of Jackson's classic in part of Pepsi's "Bad 25th anniversary campaign" earlier this year and you can revisit it by taking a listen to it below!

TV Rewind: "Tamar & Vince" Season 2 Ep. 4

The fourth episode of season two of We TV's Tamar & Vince aired earlier tonight and during the latest episode of the hit We TV series, Tamar was busy finding maternity clothes, hiring a nanny with Vince, shooting promotional material for her then forthcoming sophomore album Love & War in addition to going to a birthing class with Vince where they decide how Tamar will birth their son.

With that said, Tamar also takes a meeting with VEVO along with her husband and shoots some scenes for RuPaul's Drag Race. Watch all of this and more go down after the jump and Enjoy!

New Video: "Butterfly" (Bilal ft. Robert Glasper)

Bilal's latest album A Love Surreal was released towards the top of this year via eOne and the famed crooner is still promoting his solid LP with the just released official video for his Robert Glasper assisted joint "Butterfly."

Lifted as the latest single from A Love Surreal, the black-and-white visual features footage of Bilal in rehearsal, traveling in the airport in addition to him performing "Butterfly" on stage. Watch Bilal's latest official music visual for "Butterfly" and Enjoy!

Song of the Day: "Yes Indeed" (Teena Marie)

" Yes Indeed" - Teena Marie
  • Writter: Teena Marie
  • Producer: Teena Marie
  • Record Label: Gordy
  • Featured on  1981's It Must Be Magic

Amazing Cover: "Be Grateful" (Ledisi)

While we await for Ledisi to digitally release her lead single "I Blame You" on Monday, September 30th, I thought I would revisit one of Ledisi's sublime covers from her vault, as she has offered just so many.

With that said, Ledisi always sets the stage on fire when she graces it and her cover of Bishop Walter Hawkins' "Be Grateful" during a tribute concert held in his honor is no exception. Ledisi praised and worshiped throughout the song testifying and belting out the good word. Watch her sublime performance below and Enjoy!

New Joint: "Man" (K'Jon)

It's been a minute since Detroit crooner K'Jon has released some new music and now he is set to release two new albums via Up&Up Records potentially later this year. His first album Without A Woman, is a set filled with traditional and current R&B songs while his second LP MAN is said to feature a throwback Motown vibe.

With that said, K'Jon released the lead single from Without A Woman "Tell You Why" earlier this year and now the second LP MAN's title-track "Man" has hit the net and is a throwback to that '60s vibe. Take a listen below to "Man" and Enjoy!

Live Audio: "Promise Me" (Luther Vandross)

Back in 1989, my born year, Vandross recorded a potential live album that seems to of been scratched. With that said, take a listen to "Promise Me," which a fan lifted through some connections to Vandross.

As always, Luther's vocals are flawless and are even better then the studio version. Let Vandross take you to that smooth mellow place below and Enjoy!

Second Listen: "Case Of The Ex (Whatcha Gonna Do)" (Mya)

Back in 2000, Mya released "Case Of The Ex (Whatcha Gonna Do)," which was the second official single from her sophomore album Fear of Flying. Written by Christopher "Tricky" Stewart and his songwriting partners Traci Hale and Thabiso "Tab" Nkhereanyne, "Case Of The Ex (Whatcha Gonna Do)" was originally envisioned as a rap song, but clearly things changed.

Released as the second single from the album following the underperforming "The Best of Me," "Case Of The Ex (Whatcha Gonna Do)" would go onto peak at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #10 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. "Case Of The Ex (Whatcha Gonna Do)" was fended off from the number one position on the Billboard Hot 100 by Destiny's Child's “Independent Women Part 1” and is still Mya's biggest hit on the charts.

With that said, take a second listen after the jump to "Case Of The Ex (Whatcha Gonna Do)" and Enjoy!

Cut: "Afrodisiac" (Brandy)

Back in 2004, Brandy released her fourth album Afrodisiac, which was helmed primarily by Timbaland and while Brandy and Timbaland wanted the title-track "Afrodisiac" to lead off the project, Brandy's label decided to got with her Kanye West assisted and produced joint "Talk About Our Love."

Either way it ended up, "Afrodisiac" was eventually released as the second international single behind "Talk About Our Love," though it never saw the light of day as a single here in the States. Often noted as one of Brandy's most overlooked critically and commercially albums, Afrodisiac for me is a cohesive album that can be listened all the way through and the title-track "Afrodisiac" is a highlight to a groundbreaking and sublime LP.

With that said, take a listen after the jump to the title-track and cut "Afrodisiac" from Brandy and Enjoy!

Live Video of Day: "I Look To You" (Whitney Houston)

R. Kelly originally penned Whitney Houston's last hit "I Look To You" 10 years before she eventually recorded and released the song as single from her last studio album I Look To You. A powerful song with religious undertones, Houston performed one of, if not the best live renditions in my book during her trip overseas in Germany when she was visiting Wetten Dass.

With that said, watch Whitney's sublime performance of "I Look To You" from Wetten Dass below as we continue to honor her legacy.

Song of the Day: "I Like" (Guy)

"I Like" - Guy
  • Writers: Gene Griffin, Aaron Hall, Timmy Gatling, & Teddy Riley
  • Producers: Gene Griffin and Teddy Riley
  • Record Label: Uptown/MCA
  • Released in 1989 from Guy
  • Peaked at #70 on the Billboard Hit 100 & #2 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks

Interview: Kanye West

Behind the Scenes: "The PJ Morton Show" Ep. 5 (PJ Morton)

Been a minute since episode three of The PJ Morton Show hit the net, but yesterday, the fourth episode of PJ's webseries vlog hit the net. Currently on tour with Maroon 5 for their Honda Civic Tour, PJ opens up about cutting his hour show down to a 20-minute opening set.

In addition to the time constraints, PJ talks about the crazy schedule he has on tour which involves opening for Maroon 5, then doing a pre-show meet-and-greet with the band and then getting back on stage to perform a full set with Maroon 5. All in a day's work I guess. Either way, watch the latest episode of The PJ Morton Show after the jump and Enjoy!
