Today marks the 20th anniversary of Mariah Carey's third studio album Music Box, which was her first career diamond-certified album in the United States. To honor this occasion, I thought it would be appropriate to revisit one of my all-time-favorite jams by Mariah Carey, which happens to be the fourth and final single lifted from Music Box.
Entitled "Anytime You Need A Friend," this Mariah Carey and Walter Afanasieff creation would go into peak at #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and features background vocals from Kelly Price and Melonie Daniels. Featuring powerhouse vocals from Mariah Carey and a gospel undertone that fits perfectly with the blend of pop and R&B, "Anytime You Need A Friend" is one of those classic MC joints that just never gets old.
