Interview: Miguel


Jenny Boom Boom is live in LA for the 12th Annual BET Awards and during her time in Los Angeles, Miguel, Jenny talked with Miguel about being nominated for 3 awards this year, how Hot 93.7 put him on, how Usher was a big influence in his life, how he was upset with not winning a Grammy, his happiness with his debut album, and revealed the planned release date for his forthcoming sophomore effort, October 23rd (his birthday). With that said, several months ago, Jessie J performed her rendition for BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge cover series and belted out a stunning slowed-down acoustic take of the upbeat club driven joint. Amazing Cover: "Marvin & Chardonnay" (Brother Spanky)


A few months ago talented composer Brother Spanky just dropped his take on Big Sean's "Marvin & Chardonnay," which is lifted from the Sean's debut album "Finally Famous." Second Listen: "Chocolate Legs" (Eric Benet)


I had the pleasure of seeing Eric Benet open-up for Ledisi during her "Be Good To Yourself" tour and was pleasantly surprised to (re)discover Bent and his vocal talents. With that said, during his set, Benet was clearly in it to win it with the ladies and performed his third single "Chocolate Legs," from his fourth album "Love & Life,"  much to the adoration of the crowd. New Joint: "Lullaby and Goodnight" (Jennifer Hudson)


Oscar and Grammy-winner Jennifer Hudson recently teamed up with Pampers to record her own rendition of the classic lullaby, "Lullaby and Goodnight." Pampers commemorated the release of Jennifer Hudson's rendition of "Lullaby and Goodnight" by donating $100,000 to Hudson's charity, the Julian D. The song which is a feel-good mid-tempo features a fun choreographed routine to accompany the visual that accompanies a song that "is about the unsung royalty in your life, men and women who quietly, every day do the mightiest, most honorable things. Back in 1980 a then unknown Luther Vandross continued his journey from behind the background  vocalist slot to headliner and with the assistance of Change and their debut album "The Glow of Love," Vandross helped position himself to garner a recording contract. Helming lead vocals for the title track as well as their single "Searching," Vandross' vocal work with the group would help lay the foundation for his legendary career. With that said, on his live album, Vandross opted to close out the album and show with the upbeat number that helped launch his career. While the film has been plagued by distrobution delays, it seems as though T.D. Jakes' involvement in the project is giving it the legs that it deserves as this trailer offers a more complete view of the forthcoming film. Amazing Cover: "Giving You The Best That I Got" (Tamia)


During Soul Train Music Award's tribute to Anita Baker, the famed music show brought out some big guns to honor the soulful vocal stylings of Ms. Anita Baker. With that said, Tamia was one of the highly talented vocalist who took part in the tribute and the Canadian songstress cooed out a sublime rendition of Anita's classic "Giving You The Best That I Got." Having released "Adorn" as the first cut from his mini EP series "Art Dealer Chic," the thumping mid-tempo joint really struck a cord with Miguel's fan base and warranted an extended version of the joint from him and his label. Though it's not clear if "Adorn" could possibly be primed to be the first cut from Miguel's forthcoming sophomore effort, I'm glad to hear that the buzz the track initially sustained is still going strong. Live Audio: "I Will Always Love You" (Whitney Houston)


I don't think a lot of people took a listen to this the first time I posted this sublime live audio so I am positing it again in the hopes that you will truly enjoy Whitney's phenomenal vocal chops. During her June 23rd, 1994 concert stop at The Spectrum in Philadelphia, PA, Whitney Houston closed out her set with her hair-raising performance of her iconic hit "I Will Always Love You." While I have heard numerous Houston renditions of this classic, this in my opinion is the best captured rendition of the song hands down and is also one of, if not the best live audio performances ever recorded. With that said, take a listen below to her aw inspiring rendition of "I Will Always Love You" below and Enjoy!

Back in 1969, Joe Simon released the Harlan Howard penned "The Chokin' Kind," which would go onto earn Joe his first #1 hit on the Billboard Hot Black Singles charts as well as a Grammy Award in 1970 for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. Peaking at a #13 on the Billboard Hot 100,  "The Chokin' Kind" would become Joe Simon's first top 20 hit on the Hot 100 charts, and was one of a string of hits Joe had during the late 1960s. Amazing Cover: "Superstar" (Ruben Studdard)


Check out Ruben Studdard's amazing cover of the Luther classic and The Carpenters' original "Superstar." While Ruben would agree that Luther has the all time best cover of this classic, Studdard's version isn't something to scoff at as I believe he comes in at a strong second or third. Second Listen: "Cosmic Journey" (Solange featuring Bilal)


Back in 2008 Solange released her sophomore album "Sol-Angel & the Hadley St. Dreams" and it quickly became one of my top 5 favorite releases from 2008. Though it didn't received the type of commercial or critical acclaim that it deserved, "Sol-Angel & the Hadley St. Dreams" featured a distinct sonic quality that mixed 60s and 70s classic soul with techno and electric-synth pop of the 80s. With that said, one of the standout joints from the set is Solange's soulful opus with Bilal "Cosmic Journey." Spanning over six minutes the joint deserves a listen or two  and if you don't have it, you should pick up her sublime sophomore effort. With that said, take a first or second listen below to "Cosmic Journey" and Enjoy!

I've been a fan of K. Artist News: Ed Sheeran added to iTunes Festival


UK global sensation Ed Sheeran has just been added to iTunes's annual iTunes Festival, which takes place at the famed "The Roundhouse" in London. Having opened up for Bruno Mars at last year's festivities, Ed is now moving on up to a headliner position joining the likes of Usher and fellow UK breakout stars Rebecca Ferguson and Emeli Sande.
