Second Listen: "Lady Marmalade" (Labelle)

With the news of Rita Ora wanting to create a remake of the Labelle classic "Lady Marmalade" with Iggy Azalea, Miley Cyrus, and Charlie XCX, even though a more modern remake came close to the turn of the century in 2001 with Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mýa and Pink, I thought it would be nice to revisit the original.

Released in 1974 from Labelle's Nightbirds, the song became the groups first and only hit to top the Billboard Hot 100 and would go onto earn the trio a nomination at the MTV Europe Music Award for Best Song.

With that said, take a second listen to this Labelle classic below and Enjoy!

Second Listen: "Roll Out" (Labelle ft. Wyclef Jean)

Back in 2008,  Labelle released their comeback album Back to Know which reunited the famed 60s and 70s soulful trio together back on record for the first time in decades.

With that said, the lead single from the album was the Wyclef Jean assisted "Roll Out," and the mid-tempo joint really gave Labelle a refreshed sound. Therefore, take a second listen below to Labelle and Wyclef Jean's collaboration on "Roll Out" and Enjoy!

Cut: "Take the Night Off" (Labelle)

Back in 1975, Labelle released their fifth album Phoenix and while the LP was a moderate hit, peaking at #44 on the Pop charts and #10 on the R&B charts, it offered a sonic departure for Labelle as they experimented a little more with rock sensibilities.

With that said, earlier today I was reading an article about Lee Daniels and he referenced his film The Paperboy, which includes the cut "Take the Night Off" from Labelle during one of the scenes and I was instantly reminded of this classic cut from the trio.

Take a listen below to Labelle's  "Take the Night Off" and Enjoy!

Rare Performance: "Four Women" (LaBelle)

One of the numerous musical highlights in LaBelle's storied musical career was their cover of the iconic Nina Simone classic "Four Women."

While I am unclear as to when the following recorded televised performance of LaBelle was captured, Patti LaBelle in addition to Sarah Dash and Nona Hendryx were in rare form on this spirited rendition.

With that said, take a few minutes and get into LaBelle's rare and phenomenal cover of the Nina Simone gem "Four Women" and Enjoy!

Live Clip: "Isn't It A Shame" (Patti LaBelle)

One of my favorite songs of all time is hands down the LaBelle classic and swan song "Isn't It A Shame." With that said, during her 2000 concert tour When A Woman Loves, Patti performed "Isn't It A Shame" during her set and of course gives it her all on this classic and sings from the only place she knows how to, her soul. Watch Patti's powerful performance of "Isn't It A Shame" after the jump and Enjoy!

Second Listen: "Isn't It A Shame" (Labelle)

Towards the end of the Labelle era back in the 1976, Labelle recorded their swan song and one of their most memorable classics "Isn't It A Shame," which was lifted from their then final studio album "Chameleon." With that said, "Isn't It A Shame," is one of those joints that stands the test of time and is still as powerful as it was back when the group originally recorded it more then 35 years ago. Take a second listen to the emotional ballad below and Enjoy!
