Amazing Cover: "Ain't No Way" (Patti LaBelle)

While much has been drummed up about a "rivalry" between the Queen of Soul, Ms. Aretha Franklin and the Phoenix of Philadelphia, Ms. Patti LaBelle, the two are actually quite close and respect one another despite the rumors of a diva feud.

With that said, back in 1993 during the Essence Music Awards, Patti LaBelle honored Aretha Franklin during her Essence tribute with a spirited rendition of "Ain't No Way" and of course Mama Patti went off on this classic turning it into her own memorable performance. Eventually, Patti would record a rendition with Mary J. Blige on her 2005 Classic Moments album that some say rivals the Queen's original.

Either way you might feel, there is no denying that Patti did her thang on her tribute rendition of "Ain't No Way" during the Essence Music Awards back in 1993 and you can watch all of the magic go down below and Enjoy!

  1. I'm very glad to hear that Aretha and Patti are close. However, every syllable, every note, and every word that Patti sings in her tribute to Aretha was studied by Patti, and copied from Aretha.
