Live Audio: "Ave Maria" (Aretha Franklin)

Back in 1987, Aretha Franklin released One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism, a live gospel album on Arista Records. Recorded at the New Bethel Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan, over the course of three nights (July 27, 28, and 30, 1987), One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism became an album that combined the gospel talents of Aretha, her late sisters Erma and Carolyn, and fellow gospel singer Mavis Staples.

While it peaking at #106 on Billboard's album chart and has sold approximately 300,000 copies, it pales in comparison to Aretha's legendary classic Amazing Grace recording in respect to both critical and commercial acclaim. Though Franklin's 1972 double-platinum Amazing Grace is regarded by many of one of, if not the best live album of all time, Franklin's One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism showcases off Franklin's legendary pipes in a way that deserves to be recognized.

Live Clip: "Memphis Soul Medley" (Vh1 Divas)

Vh1 Divas Celebrate Soul is airing tonight after it was recorded Sunday night in NYC. With that said, the first tribute city that was aired on the telecast was a tribute to Memphis Soul and Jessie J and Jennifer Hudson led off the medley with their take on Eddie Floyd's "Knock On Wood." After their solid rendition, Erykah Badu and Chaka Khan joined Mavis Staples on her classic "I'll Take You There." Watch their sublime performances below and Enjoy!

Essence Music Festival: 2011 Lineup

The 17th Annual Essence Music Festival which will be held in New Orleans July 1st through 3rd has announced that its themes this year is “the roots of R&B.” With a headlining line-up that includes Jill Scott,  Mary J. Blige and Kanye West, the festival is primed to have one of its biggest years yet.  Also on the main stage Boyz II Men, Charlie Wilson, Fantasia and Trey Songz will join the different headlining acts and MC Lyte, Mavis Staples, Tank,  Dwele, Macy Gray, Kelly Price,  and Mint Condition have also been confirmed to be making appearances.  As more developments arise, we will keep you posted.
