NO ONE and I mean NO ONE should attempt to cover a Whitney Houston song, let alone the greatest hits of her discography, and I still hold that sentiment true with the caveat of Heather Headley! Having witnessed her brilliance in The Bodyguard Musical here in London last night, I can say without a doubt that if there is anyone in the game right now that should and can pull off an entire Whitney Houston tribute album it is the Tony-and-Grammy-winning Heather Headley. While she takes on some of Houston's biggest numbers in the musical, the official soundtrack to the musical has yet to be released and therefore fans like I are left with her brillant take of "Run To You" that was included on her sublime LP Only One In The World.
While a lot of artists who cover Whitney attempt to perform the songs like The Voice, Heather is an award-winning vocalist for a reason and she opts to interpret the songs through her own powerhouse voice while changing some of the melody to make the songs truly Heather Headley originals.
