Project in the Works: 'Rock of Ages' Film

Soul singer Mary J. Blige, who is no stranger to films,  has signed on to play a strip club owner named Justice in the upcoming film adaptation of the broadway musical Rock of Ages. In the stage production,  Justice, sings a variety of 80s classics including Poison’s "Every Rose Has its Thorn” and Quarterflash’s “Harden My Heart" and it is expected that Blige will perform these same numbers.  Mary J. Blige is the first actress to become officially attached to the project, while Tom Cruise, Taylor Swift , and Russell Brand have all shown interest or are in talks to play other central characters in the film.  Rock of Ages for those unfamiliar with the musical is set in the late 80s on the Sunset Strip, and is a tale of a small town girl meeting a rock star in  one of L.A.’s most famous rock club. Expect the film to start production later this year with a 2012 release date in mind.
