A Cappella: "Gimme Shelter" (The Rolling Stones feat. Merry Clayton)
Back in 1969, The Rolling Stones were recording their eighth studio album Let It Bleed and during the recording sessions for "Gimme Shelter," The Rolling Stones brought in Merry Clayton to perform the powerful background and duet vocals with Mick Jagger. Bonnie Bramlett was originally intended to sing the part, but Bramlett was not available, possibly because of illness. With that said, Merry Clayton was pregnant at the time and singing so hard on her solo part possibly contributed to the miscarriage she had the day after the session.
With that in mind, take a listen after the jump to the isolated vocals of Mick Jagger and Merry Clayton and Enjoy!
