Amazing Cover: "Angel" (Ruben Studdard)

Why Ruben hasn't recorded a cover version of this yet is unbeknownst to me, but in my book he definitely should. With that said, Ruben's heartfelt and emotional cover of Aretha's "Angel"is in my opinion one of, if not his best live vocal performance to date.

Written by Franklin's sister Carolyn, this tender ballad has a soft spot in the Queen's heart and the way Ruben sang it really touched her that night as you can tell from the clip.

Even though he was sick, Ruben brought the soulful depths that few can these days and you can watch it all go down below as we continue to give thanks on this day.

Amazing Cover: "Superstar" (Ruben Studdard)

Back in 2003, then American Idol winner Ruben Studdard released his debut album Soulful and the standout track on his debut LP for me had to be his cover of The Carpenters' original classic "Superstar."

I came to know the song from the vocals of Luther Vandross, and it appears as how Ruben delivers the song that he did indeed as well. With that said, take a listen after the jump to Ruben's masterful rendition of "Superstar" and Enjoy!

New Joint: "Back 2 Love" (Kelly Price ft. Ruben Studdard)

What happens when you team up two of R&B's best voices on a new duet? Well Kelly Price and Ruben Studdard have an answer to that with their smooth new mid-tempo "Back 2 Love," which follows Kelly's thumping "It's My Time," as the second official single lifted from her forthcoming album, Sing, Pray, Love Vol. 1: Sing, due June 3rd.

Featuring the catchy and infectious chorus "Gotta get back to love / Gotta get back to trust,"  Ruben croons out this simple hook while he and Kelly both riff on top of it, making for an enjoyable mid-tempo banger that I am sure will be heating up Adult R&B Radio ASAP.

With that said, take a listen below to "Back 2 Love" and if you like what you hear, lookout for Kelly Price's upcoming album, Sing, Pray, Love Vol. 1: Sing, when it's released next Tuesday, June 3rd!

With his new album Unconditional Love currenly gracing our ears, I thought it would be appropriate to revisit his sublime cover of Aretha Franklin's classic hit "Angel."

Playback: "If This World Were Mine" (Ruben Studdard & Lalah Hathaway)

I wanted to playback Ruben Studdard and Lalah Hathaway's smooth, silky, and soulful (sss) version, of "If This World Were Mine" to celebrate The Velvet Teddy Bear's newly released album Unconditional Love this past tuesday.

Featuring arguable the best soulful male vocalist currently recording (looking at you D'Angelo for a new project) and one of the most slept on vocalists of our generation Lalah Hathaway (who hopefully will get her just dues at the Grammys for her sublime collaboration with Snarky Puppy on "Something"), their smooth rendition of the Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell classic has been on repeat at my crib since I heard it a few few weeks ago.

There are really aren't enough words in my book to say how wonderful this collaboration is and hopefully it will be getting the full single treatment because radio and R&B as a whole needs this right now... back to just sanging!

With that said, take a few listens below to Ruben and Lalah's sublime duet on the evergreen classic "If This World Were Mine" and if you haven't checked out Ruben's new album Unconditional Love, it's in stores now!

New Joint: "If This World Were Mine" (Ruben Studdard & Lalah Hathaway)

Wow..... while no rendition of "If This World Were Mine" will top Luther Vandross and Cheryl Lynn's rendition in my book, Ruben Studdard and Lalah Hathaway's smooth, silky, and soulful (sss) version, which is lifted from The Velvet Teddy Bear's forthcoming album Unconditional Love is a very very very close second.

Amazing Cover: "Angel" (Ruben Studdard)

With his new album Unconditional Love slated for release towards the top of next year in February 2014, I am glad that Ruben will be gracing our ears with his highly anticipated followup to 2012's Letters from Birmingham. Therefore, I thought it would be appropriate to revisit his sublime cover of Aretha Franklin's classic hit "Angel."

It has been a minute since we've heard from Ruben Studdard and while the velvet teddy bear as he was known on American Idol is potentially working on a followup to 2012's Letters from Birmingham, I thought it would be appropriate to revisit his sublime cover of Aretha Franklin's classic hit "Angel."

Amazing Cover: "Superstar" (Ruben Studdard)

As we continue to enter into a new year and decade, I can't help but recall one of my favorite covers of the 2000s. With that said, below you will find  Ruben Studdard's amazing cover of the Luther classic and The Carpenters' original "Superstar." While Ruben would agree that Luther has the all time best cover of this classic, Studdard's version isn't something to scoff at as I believe he comes in at a strong second or third. With that said, check out his cover below and Enjoy!
