Project in the Works: James Brown Biopic "Get On Up"

The forthcoming James Brown biopic Get On Up has added two more actors to the film that is slated to star Chadwick Boseman of 42 fame as Brown. Announced yesterday by The Hollywood Reporter, Jill Scott and Dan Aykroyd have been added to the Tate Taylor  (The Help, Winter's Bone) directed flick.

Dan Aykroyd will portray Ben Bart, the president of the agency that represented Brown for over four decades, while Scott is slated to co-star as one of Brown's wives, in a role that was written specifically with her in mind. Slated to being shooting later this month, the film will depict Brown's life in poverty, becoming the iconic Godfather of Soul, and all of the typical accompaniments that come along with fame including dug addiction, money troubles and failed relationships.

In addition to Boseman, Aykroyd and Scott, Lennie James (Walking Dead) will co-star as Brown's father Joe, and fellow The Help co-stars Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer will reunite with each other and Tate Taylor in unannounced roles. While the film has lingered for years, it appears as if all signs point to go as the film recently acquired the rights to Brown's discography.
