Live Clip: "The Star-Spangled Banner" (Whitney Houston)
While "lip-synch gate" with Beyoncé is beginning to subside during her monumental performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner," I thought I would bring it to one of the most aw inspiring renditions that often goes overlooked.
Following her historic performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" during the Super Bowl, Whitney Houston decided to carry it over into a concert to honor the troops, their families, and military and government dignitaries in honor of those returning from the Gulf War. The concert was broadcast live on HBO and the cable network agreed to unscramble its signal allowing it to be available to over 53 million cable households. The concert was open to only 3,100 people, all of whom were either military personnel or their families. The show won a Cable ACE award for "Performance Music Special" in 1992 and Whitney Houston opened the show by performing a booming live rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" below.
