Interview: D'Angelo's 2014 RBMA Lecture


Earlier this week on Wednesday, D'Angelo sat down with renown cultural critic Nelson George for the 2014 Red Bull Music Academy Lecture and during his rare and in-depth interview, D'Angelo opened up about a variety of topics including how playing guitar has impacted his music, how blues holds everything together, his group Intelligent Deadly But Unique, his musical influences, his background in Richmond, Virginia as well as the Apollo's legacy in his career.

In addition, D'Angelo opens up about Mtume's influence on him, how he met Questlove, his evolution from Brown Sugar to his landmark album Voodoo, his song "Devil's Pie," his work on Black Men United's "U Will Know," How technology has changed the music industry, his  process of recording where are he's going musically, his thoughts on the Soulquarians, his thoughts on "neo-soul" and much more.
