Chart News: K. Michelle debuts at #2

K. Michelle's debut album Rebellious Soul flew of the shelfs at a lot of retailers this past week and while I had trouble originally acquiring a physical copy of her album, I eventually procured a copy and along with the rest of K. Michelle's fans proved that her label undershipped her album during its first week of release.

Despite the undershipping issue for Rebellious Soul, K. Michelle was still able to debut at #2 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and #1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. With sale of 72,000 copies, I am sure K could've sold a lot more if Atlantic would've shipped more copies of Rebellious Soul, but either way, next week will tell if the album will have legs, as I think it will as it's a solid collection of songs and K seems to be dedicated to work her album over the next year with several tours in the works.

With that said,  K. Michelle has announced that she will be hitting the road on three different tours in the coming 12 months kicking off with a solo headlining tour, followed by a joint tour with Keyshia Cole and then a short tour with her mentor R. Kelly.

Chart News: Frank Ocean set for huge digital debut

According to HITS Daily Double, Frank Ocean is set to debut rather high with his debut effort "channel ORANGE." Though only released exclusively to iTunes, a week ahead of its physical and digital release date, Frank Ocean is expected to sell between 110,000 and 125,000 copies of "channel ORANGE" in its first week based on preliminary estimates. Currently still perched at the top of the iTunes Albums chart, due to it not being released to other digital or physical outlets until next week, Ocean will have to settle for a #2 debut behind the Zac Brown Band, which is expected to take the top spot on next week's Billboard Top 200 chart with sales between 210,000  and 225,000.

Chart News: Monica debuts in the top 5

Though Monica's last album "Still Standing" debuted at #2 on the Billboard Hot 200 with 184,000 copies sold, her latest effort "New Life" has maintained some of that momentum debuting at #4 with sales of over 69,000. While it wasn't as big of a start on the charts, I am sure Monica will find momentum with the right singles and her potential forthcoming tour with Brandy.

Chart News: Amy Winehouse Storms the UK Charts

Amy Winehouse's postmortem "Lioness: Hidden Treasures" has stormed onto the UK Charts posting sales unites in excess of 194,000 to easily secure her the top spot on the UK Albums Chart. Amy's impressive first week total net her the fourth largest first week total of 2011 in the UK behind Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" (215,000), Coldplay's "Mylo Xyloto" (208,000) and Adele's "21" (208,000). Chart News: "21" tops 10 Million (Adele)

Adele's "21" continues to soar on the charts and after last week, it became the first album to spend 30 weeks in the top 5 of the Billboard Top 200  since Whitney Houston's 1993 "The Bodyguard." With that said, Adele just surpassed the 10 million units sold mark of "21" thanks to selling another 276k this past week. Though it finds the album at #2 on the World Charts, this sales frame allows Adele to blow by the 10 million units sold mark and she is currently sitting with 10.15 million units sold. Thanks to the help of her number one singles "Rolling In The Deep" and "Someone Like You," it seems as though Adele is on lock for several of the top Grammy Awards next year and I wouldn't be shocked if the album surpasses 15 million units by the Grammys. With an impressive 10.15 million units sold this past week, Adele's "21" becomes the fastest selling album since Usher's Confessions which surpassed this sales frame in the same amount of time.

With limited promotion and a solid set of songs, Adele is truly making her presence known in the industry and fans worldwide. While she has already begun thinking about her third album, it's refreshing to see that "21" still has so much life to give in terms of singles before another album should be rolled out. With that said, if you don't have "21" in your record collection yet, it's a must have!

Chart News: Adele vaults to #1 on Hot 100

While several of today's biggest artists have struggled with sales and finding a hit song, Adele continues to prove that being true to yourself musically does pay off. With 9 million copies of "21" sold thus far worldwide since it's mid-Winter release, Adele has been proving that great songs, songwriting, and vocals do and can still mean a success. With that said, Adele's latest single in the US "Someone Like You," has just vaulted up the Hot 100 to #1 from its previous place of #19 on the charts. Thus, the song becomes Adele's second #1 hit behind her smash hit "Rolling in The Deep" which spent 7 weeks at the summit and is the only digital track in US history thus far to sell 5 million copies in the same year.

Ridding high on the chart success of "21" as well as the renewed interest in her debut album "19," it should be interesting to see where Adele will take her career next.

Chart News: Adele continues to Soar

2011 has been the year of Adele. With the only record to of sold over 2 million copies thus far this year, Adele's "21" continues to dominate the charts now being certified triple platinum as it is weeks away from selling 3 million copies in the US alone.

Having shifted another 83,000 units this week, "21" has sold an impressive 2.83 million copies this week after roughly five months of release. Though she currently sits at #2 on the Billboard Top 200, her album has never left the top 3 since its release in the US back in March. In addition to all of her success in the US, her album has sold over 3 million copies in the UK and has thus far shifted 8.3 million copies worldwide.

With that in mind, Adele is clearly on track to shift over ten million copies of her breakthrough album "21" by the close of 2011 and is primed to win the Grammy for Album of the Year.

Chart News: "21" tops 8 Milllion (Adele)

It should come as no surprise that this past chart week Adele has passed the 8 million units sold mark for her sophomore album "21." With worldwide sales standing at  8,153,000 and counting, Adele should cross the 9 million unit mark within weeks and achieve diamond status for "21" by mid-Fall. This news comes on the heals of Adele reclaiming the #1 spot on the Billboard Top 200 for an eleventh nonconsecutive week and posting a 1% sales increase this past week in the US.

With the Grammy Award nominations looming to be announced in the Fall, Adele seems primed for multiple nominations including and not limited to Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Vocal Performance. With these possible nominations, it should come as no surprise that Adele will easily surpass the 3.5 million units sold mark in the US alone as she currently sits atop the charts  with 2,750,250 units sold. Time will tell if the nominations and possible Grammy wins can push Adele over the 4 million mark in the US but nothing is impossible as her current chart success has dictated

Chart News: Jill Scott achieves #1 Album

Jill Scott's fourth studio album "The Light Of The Sun," was released last week to tremendous praise from both critics and fans. "The Light Of The Sun marks the first time Jill Scott has released new material since 2007's "The Real Thing: Words And Sounds Vol. 3" and also marks a new recording era with Warner Brothers as the songstress inked a distribution deal with the label earlier this year. With that said, the numbers are in and Jill Scott has achieved her first number one album on the Billboards 200 Album Charts as well as her second number one on the R&B charts. Scott has achieved this goal through selling over 137,000 copies in her first week and with Beyonce's new album "4" debuting this week, it seems as if Scott will only hold this coveted  position for this week. Either way it ends up, congratulations are in order for Scott and her team for this achievement.

Chart News: Adele

Adele continues to set the charts on fire with her sophomore album "21," and her numerous singles on the charts. This week on the Billboard Hot 100, Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" saw a surge in digital downloads (298,000 last week), which helped place the song at #2 behind Katy Perry's "E.T." In addition to "Rolling In The Deep"'s chart success, Adele's "Turning Tables" makes its debut on the chart at #63, while the Gwyneth Paltrow's Glee version bows at #66. All and all, Adele's "breakout" success continues in the USA as her album "21," returns to the summit of the Billboard Hot 200 for a fifth non-consecutive week.

On a side note, Adele's USA tour will kick off in May, and hopefully more dates and larger venues will be added to her current tour as the demand to see Adele live far exceeds the current availability of some of the venues.

Adele's sophomore effort "21" continues to break sales and chart records as she scores a record-breaking 11th consecutive week atop the UK Albums Chart. This impressive chart stay dethrones that previously held by The Beatles and Madonna who both held at #1 for an astonishing 10-weeks.  Adele's "21" to date has sold over 1.87 million copies in the UK and has so far been certified 7x platinum. In addition to this amazing sales feat, Adele's "21" has also continually sold over 100,000 each week so far on the UK Album Charts which marks another record for the songstress. 2011 is shaping up to be the year of Adele as "21" is already the best-selling project of the year in the  US with sales over 940,000 and counting.

So far, "21" is close to surpassing the  4 million sales mark worldwide with less then 9 weeks of being released worldwide. Taken into account that only two official singles have been serviced from her album so far, I predict that Adele's "21" will rank in roughly 7.5 million copies by the years end and the singer-songwriter should have a lock on several major awards from the recently reconfigured Grammy Awards.

After debuting at the top of the charts last week with sales of 352,000 copies, Adele's sophomore album "21" has continued another  frame at the top of the US charts with an additional 168,000 copies to sold. With an excess of 520,000 copies sold in just two weeks, Adele's album has been certified gold and ranks as the largest first week sales debut of 2011 in addition to being the top selling CD of 2011 so far.  Adele's lead single "Rolling In The Deep," has also been certified Gold by the R.I.A.A. for digital sales in excess of 500,000 downloads and her second single "Someone Like You," continues to dominate the UK charts where it currently sits at #1.  So glad real music is getting it much deserved shine as 2011 starts to fully bloom.

Chart News: Adele

Adele's "21" has just sold over a million copies  in the UK this past week to secure her sixth consecutive week atop the album chart while her second single "Someone Like You" continues to dominate the U.K.'s single charts with a third week at number one. Adele's impressive sales mark of over a million albums being sold is the fastest it's ever been done before in UK chart history. "21" sold another impressive 180,000 copies last week, according to the Offi- cial Charts Company which is an increase on its 173,000 that it sold in week five of release. In addition to this news, Adele's debut album "19" sits comfortably in the top 5 for another week at number four after being at number 2 last week.

So glad Adele is finally getting the type of shine and success her talents deserve. Make sure you go out ang get your copy of "21" today if you don't have it!

Chart News: Adele & Marsha Ambrosius

Early chart news indicates that British songbirds Adele and Marsha Ambrosius are poised to capture the top two spots on next week's Billboard Top 200 album charts. Adele is ridding high on her #1 debut for her sophomore album "21" and it's expected that she will maintain her chart position for at lease another week. Also Marsha's "Late Nights & Early Mornings," is looking like a lock to score a #2 bow behind Adele with  first-week sales looking to total around 85-90k. While industry sales projections for Adele's sophomore album "21" were around 250,000 to 300,000 units, Adele has surpassed expectation and has placed "21" atop the US Billboard 200 at #1 with sales of 325,000 units. "21" give Adele her first #1 album in the US and highest sales frame to date. Her debut album 2008's "19", peaked at #10 and to date has gone gold with sales of roughly 948,000 units.  It should be interesting to see how Adele's sophomore album does on the charts in the coming weeks. With a strong start to her sophomore album, one can infer that this time around the British songstress will go platinum. It should also be noted that Adele's "21" sales are the highest sales frame by a single album since November!

According to Billboard, Fantasia is on track for a solid #2 opening on their charts with her projected first week sales!

"Eminem will likely relinquish the No. 1 position next week to Katy Perry's new "Teenage Dream." Released yesterday (Aug. 24), industry prognosticators suggest that the set will likely sell in the range of 170,000 to 200,000 by week's end on Aug. 29. Beleaguered former "American Idol" champ Fantasia is seeking a big week too. Her third set, "Back to Me," is on track for a sturdy No. 2 debut with a number in the range of 150,000 to 175,000."

Chart News: Maxwell Headed For Big Billboard Chart Debut

According to Billboard.com's Keith Caulfield, "Maxwell's first album in nearly eight years, "BLACKsummers'night," is headed for a big debut next week on the Billboard 200 chart. Industry prognosticators suggest the Columbia set could move anywhere from 275,000 to 325,000 in its first week. The R&B singer's last offering, 2001's "Now," opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with a career-high 296,000 copies sold according to Nielsen SoundScan."
