Cut: "Nightshift" (The Commodores)
I was jamming to Fantasia's "Lose To Win" earlier today and thought it would be appropriate to reivist the cut that it samples.
Back in 1985, The Commodores released "Nightshift," which was the title-track to their eleventh studio album Nightshitft and would become the last album the group recorded for Motown. The song was a tribute to Jackie Wilson and Marvin Gaye, who had died in 1984."Nightshift" was also the first hit attained by The Commodores following Lionel Richie's departure from the group. It was also their biggest hit after Richie's departure, peaking at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Hot Black Singles chart.
Although the band was against the label's decision to release it as a single, it won a Grammy Award in 1985 for Best Vocal R&B Performance by a Duo/Group. With that said, "Nightshift" is one of those classic that you might forget about from time to time but when you hear it, are instantly reminded of its greatness. Take a listen below to "Nightshift" and Enjoy!
