Cut: "Today I Sing the Blues" (Aretha Franklin)
Before she was known as The Queen of Soul with her Atlantic discography, Aretha Franklin was signed to Columbia Records where she released her sophomore album (Columbia debut) in 1960 entitled Aretha. While Aretha: With The Ray Bryant Combo, did not chart, it featured some of her best early vocals including the last joint on the LP entitled "Today I Sing the Blues." While it was reissued in 1969 when Franklin was signed to Atlantic Records and had already took over the R&B and Pop charts with her signature brand of Soul, the song never really caught on the charts. With that said, the original and the 1969 reissue are some of those deep cut gems from Franklin and I thought it would be appropriate to (re)visit them after the jump!
