Album in the Works: "Letters From Birmingham" (Ruben Studdard)
It's been a minute since we've heard some new music from Ruben Studdard and while "The Velvet Teddy Bear" hasn't released an album since 2009's "Love Is," fans of the crooner won't have to wait much long for his upcoming LP. Slated for a March 11th, 2012 release from Shanachie Entertainment, "Letters From Birmingham" features production solely from producer Elvis "Blac Elvis" Williams and co-writer Harold Lilly. The eleven-track studio album is lead by his remake of the Bobby Brown joint "Rock Wicha" which features some vocal contributions by K. Michelle.
In addition to K. Michelle's contributions, Ruben has enlisted Chrisette Michele on the duet "Tonight." With regards to the title of Studdard's forthcoming album, he's mentioned that he gain inspiration from Martin Luther King Jr.“Martin Luther King Jr. had this famous Letter from a Birmingham Jail and being from Birmingham, I’ve read it so many times,” he said. “We were going through the Atlanta airport one day and they have this display for Martin Luther King Jr. and it just struck me to do the album as letters.” With the concept of love letters is the inspiration behind the album, it should be interesting to see how Ruben's upcoming album shapes up as his cover of Bobby Brown's hit is a solid lead-off in my opinion.
