Project in the Works: "Sparkle" Remake (Jordin Sparks)

Jordin Sparks has been tapped to play the lead role in the "Sparkle" remake of the 1976 film  of the same name. This will mark Jordin's acting debut and it worked for fellow American Idol alum Jennifer Hudson, so it should be interesting how this works out for Sparks.

Inspired by the story of The Supremes, another remake was in the works with Aaliyah attached to star, though after the songstress passed away, the project dematerialized.  The original "Sparkle" focused on three sisters in the late 1950s who became a successful girl group and the filmed chronicled the rise and fall of the trio. While Sparks is attached in the lead, Mike Epps is said to be attached to play Satin, the stand-up comic who marries one of the three sisters. In addition, rumor has it that Whitney Houston is in talks to portray Jordin's character's mother.

Time will tell when the project will hit theaters, but with an announcement occurring now, one can ponder that the film will be out towards the end of 2012 primed for Oscar season.
