In a year when not a single Black artist topped the Billboard Hot 100 charts as lead artist, DJ Earworm's annual United State of Pop seems to further underscore the point as fewer faces of color are seen in this mashup versus years before.
While DJ Earworm doesn't pull exclusively from the coveted #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, and thus the appearance of Rihanna's "Stay," and the Aloe Blacc assisted "Wake Me Up," it's an interesting fact to note that in the charts over 50 year existence that this is the first year this occurrence has happened.
